Gampo Abbey & Stupa of Enlightenment

Gampo Abbey

The Gampo Abbey is a Shambhala Buddhist Monastery nestled on the remote coastal cliffs of Pleasant Bay. It was established in 1981 and is the only monastery of its kind in North America. Monastics from all over the world have come to study in this serene and spiritual setting and many live here year round. Guided tours of the grounds are often available throughout the summer months at specified times.

Just beyond the Monastery itself is the Stupa of Enlightenment which is a traditional Budhist monument dedicated to world peace and used as a tool to encourage others to follow the path of enlightenment. The monument is surrounded by stone engraved plaques displaying various principles of Buddhism.
